Miss Saigon Is Returning To Broadway.

Miss Saigon is coming back to Broadway in March 2017. Cameron Mackintosh’s crowd-wowing production of the Boublil and Schonberg classic has had a huge season in London, and now it’s coming to New York. The lead stars of the show are Eva Noblezada and Jon Jon Briones.

Miss Saigon is a huge love story set in the last days of US occupation in Saigon, circa 1975. It brings together an unlikely pair of lovers: a young Vietnamese woman and an American GI. Kim, orphaned at 17 by the war, must work in one of rough Saigon nightclubs run by the notorious “Engineer.” Looking to do something special for his friend Chris, American GI John engages Kim’s services for one fateful night that will end up altering their lives completely.

The storied musical Miss Saigon (originally by Boublil & Schonberg) is returning to Broadway for a revival in the capable hands of British producer Cameron Mackintosh. Dates and the theater have just been announced.

This version of the show draws from the particularly well-received version mounted in London in 2014. The book and lyrics have been revised by Michael Mahler, and Laurence Connor (Les Miz, School of Rock) produced all-new staging. The New York show is set to play at the Broadway Theatre, the same venue that hosted the show’s first Broadway run back in 1991. Previews start on March 1, 2017, and opening night is scheduled for March 23.

The Broadway Theatre’s current production of Fiddler on the Roof will be closing on December 31, 2016.

The stars of the London show will be hopping continents to play in the New York production. Kim will be portrayed by Eva Noblezada (a 20-year-old originally from North Carolina) and Jon Jon Briones will take the stage as the Engineer. The original performers in those roles during both the 1989 London production and the 1991 Broadway production were Lea Salonga and Jonathon Pryce. They were Tony-winning roles for each performer. Noblezada was picked up by the show’s casting team three years ago at the National High School Musical Theater Awards.
